Jim Caldwell: ‘Important’ for Lions to repair relationship with Calvin Johnson

Jim Caldwell does not want Calvin Johnson to remain disgruntled with the Lions organization.

The Lions coach said Wednesday he hopes the team can repair its relationship with the franchise’s all-time leading receiver. Caldwell wants Lions alumni at team events and hopes to include Johnson for future events.

“Our practices are open to all of our alumni. They can come any time, any day,” Caldwell told reporters. “I think you can see from the Taste of the Lions that a lot of the guys still come back and participate. Lomas Brown is always around doing something for us or helping us out with something. Barry (Sanders) was here during the Taste of the Lions. Billy Sims was here.

“There’s so many of the guys that have been such an important part of the organization were involved. That is important to us.”

Caldwell said team owner Martha Ford, president Rod Wood and general manager Bob Quinn are all “concerned” about a possible rift between Johnson and the Lions.

Should Murray suffer an injury, Cook would be a prime candidate to handle a heavy workload. He could develop into a three-down back at some point during the season.

Jerick McKinnon is also on the roster, but Cheap Jerseys From China NBA he did not take advantage of his opportunity last season when he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry.

Last year, Elliott was a sure-fire first-round pick in Cheap Jerseys MLB fantasy drafts because he was virtually assured a huge workload behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Cook does not have the same upside heading into the season, but he could payoff for a fantasy owner willing to gamble on a rookie with explosive talent.

Tony Romo dubbed ‘the next John Madden’ ahead of CBS broadcasting debut

With Jay Cutler having moved on to the broadcast booth, Kaepernick holds the mantle as the most expensive player without an NFL home, surprising even given the off-field considerations we knew would follow him.

Logic says Kaepernick should get a similar look as the one the Browns gave Robert Griffin III last year, but that hasn’t happened. The ship probably has sailed on starting jobs for Kaepernick, as neither the Browns nor Texans have shown interest, but at least one team should be looking to add him for a few million.

There’s no reason contending teams with bad backup situations (Dallas, Seattle, etc.), teams with aging QBs and no solution (Arizona) or teams with starters who generally miss time (Pittsburgh) should not reach out. Kaepernick should get a chance before the summer, but the odds grow less certain with each passing week.

Tony Romo retired from the NFL this year for an opportunity to start a career in the broadcast booth.

Before he begins calling NFL games for CBS, the former Cowboys quarterback will debut on the network’s broadcast of the Dean & DeLuca Invitational at Colonial Golf Club, a PGA Tour event in Fort Worth, Texas.

“I think he is going to be great. I think we have the next John Madden on our hands,” CBS sports producer Lance Barrow said of Romo, via GolfChannel.com.

Romo is no stranger to golf. The Pro Cheap Infant Jerseys Bowl quarterback is also a scratch golfer who has attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open on multiple occasions, including this year.

Romo will be seated alongside Jim Nantz and Cheap Jerseys Bing Nick Faldo as a commentator on the 18th green for the tournament.

Andrew Hawkins passed up ‘double the compensation’ elsewhere to join Patriots

Former Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins revealed Wednesday that he signed with the Patriots after passing up on deals from other teams that “were probably double the Cheap Girls Softball Jerseys compensation.”

“It’s all about winning for me at this point, and putting myself in the best position to do so,” he said on Uninterrupted. “I have my work cut out for me, it’s an opportunity, and that’s how I’m approaching it: Go in there, seeing how I stack up with the best, and try to earn my keep and prove my worth. Hopefully I can be a part of something special and kind of join that Patriots legacy.”

The scene features “him” working out with other Patriots receivers.

Hawkins started his career for the Bengals and has played his last three seasons with the Browns. He has shown talent as a slot receiver in the past with his best year being in 2014 when he caught 63 passes for 824 yards. His stats may not have been spectacular, but Hawkins meant a lot to the Browns, as evidenced by the kind words Hue Jackson said in a statement after his release this offseason.

Since we broke down Kaepernick’s final six routes to such employment in late March, we’ve had the 2017 NFL draft and several more waves of free agency. File Fitzpatrick under Blaine Gabbert, who got a one-year deal from the Cardinals last week.

That leaves the Seahawks as the only NFL team that didn’t make a move for a QB, and still also has an issue at QB. Undrafted second-year man Treyvone Boykin, with his two-arrest offseason, remains the No. 2 to Russell Wilson.

The Browns have a litany of quarterback options, and none of them are great.

“I expected everything that you guys wrote,” Jackson said. “I watched everything you guys wrote about what he was and what he wasn’t. I mean, I heard it from everywhere, too. I think the guy, since he’s been here, he’s been outstanding. I think you guys know me. I don’t judge people by what everybody else says. I kind of judge them by what I see.

“But everybody has a reputation before them, so his was a little bit different. He’s not any of that that we saw here. The guy’s been outstanding in our building, and I think that’s what’s most important.”

The Browns have a litany of quarterback options, and none of them are great. It is assumed that Cody Kessler will start until this year’s second-round pick DeShone Kizer is groomed into the starting role. The team also has former Stanford star Kevin Hogan.

Osweiler has the most experience — little of it is good — out of those options. If he can show some arm strength and increased accuracy in training camp, the Browns may have found an unlikely steal to finally solidify their rotating door at quarterback.

Now there’s an issue of whether the league will punish the Patriots. As you may Cheap Eagles Jerseys have seen during this offseason with the Richard Sherman fiasco, it’s against league rules for teams to hide injuries. The question here is whether the Patriots noticed the concussion symptoms from Cheap Authentic NBA Jerseys Brady, or whether the quarterback hid them from team doctors.

In any case, expect the Patriots to be surrounded in controversy (again) thanks to Bundchen’s admission.

Manny Machado hits ball out of Fenway Park, takes leisurely stroll around the bases

Revenge is a dish best served with ridiculous exit velocity.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, who has been targeted by Red Sox pitchers on more than one occasion over the past few weeks, exacted payback with a mammoth home run Thursday night at Fenway Park.

The home run traveled an estimated 466 feet, which is good for Machado’s second-longest home run of the season. His longest was a 470-foot blast to dead center field at Yankee Stadium. Thursday’s dinger exited his bat at 113.6 mph.

Not only did Machado announce his presence with authority, but he mimicked former Red Sox great David Ortiz with a leisurely stroll around the bags. Statcast marked the trot at 29.8 seconds.

Machado’s bomb was good for three runs, and the Orioles tacked on a few more Cheap NFL Jerseys USA in an 8-3 win.

Scherzer’s absence leaves Chris Archer and Marcus Stroman as the top starting options for Team USA.

Fulms was part of something special in college. His Vanderbilt squad won the 2014 College World Series, and Fulmer started the winner-take-all championship game against Virginia — he struck out five in 5 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits and two runs (one unearned). Vanderbilt made it back to the CWS final again in 2015, but that time Virginia took home the title.

Doug Free retires, Cowboys’ offensive line takes another hit

The Cowboys offensive line that made rookies Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott look so good last season has just lost another starter.

Starting right tackle Doug Free is expected to announce his retirement after 10 seasons, according to ESPN.

Coupled with the loss of guard Ronald Leary to Denver in free agency Friday, the Cowboys have a few of holes to fill on the OL.

Free, 33, had started all but five games for Dallas since the 2010 season. He struggled in 2016, yielding eight sacks, but the Cowboys will still miss his veteran presence.

The retirement caught the Cowboys by surprise. Coach Jason Garrett had said at the NFL Scouting Combine they didn’t expect him to be leaving the game.

“He, like all the players, they wanted to get away for a little while then get themselves recharged and come back to work,” Garrett said, via NFL.com. “I don’t anticipate anything other than that.”

Guard La’El Collins is one option to move over to Free’s Cheap NFL Jerseys Paypal old position.

The Altuve-Correa combo is pretty amazing, isn’t it? Altuve won the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award (he hit .338 with 24 homers and 30 stolen bases) and Correa produced a 5.9 WAR, 20 homers, 96 RBIs and 36 doubles in his age-21 season. That’s just silly. After a slow start in the bigs (2 for 38), Bregman hit .313 in his final 39 games of 2016 and showed why the Astros were so excited to land him with the second overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft out of LSU. Gurriel was a legend on the Cuba national baseball team, and he’ll get the chance to prove he can be an MLB star, too. If he falters, Houston has options (Marwin Gonzalez and A.J. Reed). But if Gurriel is as good as the Astros hope and Bregman contends for the AL Rookie of the Year, this could be baseball’s best. Even with the uncertainty, they’re top five.

Challenge of Dean Blandino’s old job is great enough for 3 people

Some day, we’ll all appreciate Dean Blandino and regret that he’s moved on to better things.

That day will be on opening weekend, or opening night, or the first preseason game, or whenever the NFL’s restructured replay system officially goes into effect. Whatever the day is, it’s coming.

For the record, Blandino’s reaction to this is … welp.

Does Rodgers really need that running game behind him? He had the highest QB rating of his career in 2011 during a MVP season in which James Starks led the team with 578 yards and one rushing TD. Rodgers won his second MVP in 2014, when Lacy rushed for 1,139 yards and nine TDs. Rodgers probably would Cheap Custom NFL Jerseys prefer the latter line behind him moving into his 10th season as the Packers’ starter.

Over those previous nine seasons, the Packers’ lead rusher has averaged 205.1 carries, 859.2 rushing yards and five rushing TDs per season. Ryan Grant (2008-09) and Lacy (2013-14) had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, but Green Bay didn’t reach the Super Bowl. The tag-team of Montgomery and Williams needs to exceed that target line to give the Packers that consistent running game to compliment Rodgers’ all-around excellence at quarterback. Chance are they can do that.

Rodgers’ arm will take the Packers far as always, but as he heads into the back half of his career that running game will be more valuable with each season.

Relationships between Bills coaches and GMs have been quite rocky over the years, in fact.

Former Bills coaches Mike Mularkey and Doug Marrone both quit on the job. Rex Ryan basically fired himself when he didn’t agree with the team’s decision not to play quarterback Tyrod Taylor in Week 17 last season.

If the ship sinks this time, Beane and McDermott will both be onboard.

Team owner Terry Pegula said Beane will have control over the 53-man roster, but in the end, it’s going to be a team effort.

“It’s going to be very similar to what Sean and I were used to Carolina,” Beane said. “I’m going to be over the football side. Sean’s going to be over the coaches. But there’s not a czar around here. Sean’s not a czar. I’m not a czar. Every decision is going to be collaborative, together.

The 2017 draft could be the start of a turnaround — and not just Blue Jays Cheap Jerseys because the television ratings increased slightly from last year.

Mind you, the event itself has limited appeal. It’s really a bunch of highlights and speculative analysis sandwiched around the selection of college players who may or may not become pro stars.

Dallas is a slight favorite in a division that seems up for grabs going into 2017. But the NFC East is anything but predictable. The last time it saw a repeat winner was 2004, when Philadelphia won its fourth consecutive division title.

The Chiefs didn’t sleep on Allen despite the fact that he went to Idaho State. They saw he had the intangibles and downright hustle to be a relentless edge pass rusher in the NFL. The Vikings were grateful for reaping his benefits later.

Jay Cutler hire by Fox Sports is an affront to football fans

Say it ain’t so, Fox Sports. Jay Cutler? Come on.

This is just a late April Fools’ joke on your NFL audience, right? You can’t be serious about hiring such a dour, arrogant, unfriendly, unlikable, underachieving former player to be a color analyst on one of your top broadcast teams.

The most anti-media, anti-fan player the NFL has seen in years is now coming into our living rooms and sports bars via grim hi-def. That is unless a starting quarterback of a playoff team goes down with an injury before or during the 2017 season. Cutler has indicated he may leave Fox in the lurch and return to the field.

Fox and Cutler are telling us he has changed since being humbled by Bears fans and becoming a father. I don’t buy it, because I know too many coaches and players who did not like working with him.

I also had a negative experience with Cutler a couple years ago.

“My gun had been registered in Florida, where I had a house at the time, but the registration had expired,” Burress explains. “It wasn’t registered at all in New York. So my gun wasn’t as legal as I thought it was. Also, I didn’t know that there was a state law in New York that called for mandatory jail time for carrying a loaded handgun without a valid New York license.”

Burress uses his own ignorance as an example of how players can assume too much power. He wants young NFL stars to know they are “not more important than anybody else just Cheap Michael Jordan Jerseys because (they) play in the NFL.”

Burress’ piece also touches on lessons he learned about trust and relationships. While not blaming the NFL, he details how the rookie symposium he attended left him helpless in terms of financial management.

NHL draft lottery 2017: How does it work, and what are the odds for each team?

The 2017 NHL Entry Draft lottery takes place on Saturday night, and you might be asking yourself a simple question.

Lottery surprises are not unheard of in the NHL. Winnipeg won second overall in 2016 despite the sixth-best odds (7.8 percent) to jump that high. They picked Patrik Laine, who is a Mitchell And Ness Cheap Jerseys Calder Trophy finalist.

When the Grizzlies seemed to have the game in the bag in overtime, Leonard activated Terminator level 5,000.

First, Leonard hit a triple to bring the game within two points:

Then after Conley missed a free throw on the other end, the MVP candidate hit a corner three to tie the game.

Leonard became the first player in NBA history with more than 40 points, more than five steals and more than five threes made in a playoff game.

And the Spurs lost.

That’s how good Game 4 was. It was an all-out war between two teams that find a way to meet each other almost every season in the playoffs. The series is now tied at two games apiece and it’s headed back to San Antonio, where the Spurs won the first two matches.

But the Grizzlies proved they can beat the Spurs in a variety of ways. And if both Conley and Leonard show up like they did for Game 4, regardless of who wins, the fans will come out on top yet again.

Hockey media may wring its hands over injuries like Crosby’s, but the ranting and fury of men (and, it has to be said, they are always male) reporting hockey is the worst kind of hypocrisy and crocodile tears. These reporters write not out of concern for players health, nor do they write out of a sense of right. These pearl-clutching articles are often written as much to try and expiate their guilt at the damage their promotion of hyper-masculine aggression as an ideal and constant need to compare sport to warfare creates as to report it – even as they say “well, it’s the game, not my bastardized view of it”.
