Doug Free retires, Cowboys’ offensive line takes another hit

The Cowboys offensive line that made rookies Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott look so good last season has just lost another starter.

Starting right tackle Doug Free is expected to announce his retirement after 10 seasons, according to ESPN.

Coupled with the loss of guard Ronald Leary to Denver in free agency Friday, the Cowboys have a few of holes to fill on the OL.

Free, 33, had started all but five games for Dallas since the 2010 season. He struggled in 2016, yielding eight sacks, but the Cowboys will still miss his veteran presence.

The retirement caught the Cowboys by surprise. Coach Jason Garrett had said at the NFL Scouting Combine they didn’t expect him to be leaving the game.

“He, like all the players, they wanted to get away for a little while then get themselves recharged and come back to work,” Garrett said, via NFL.com. “I don’t anticipate anything other than that.”

Guard La’El Collins is one option to move over to Free’s Cheap NFL Jerseys Paypal old position.

The Altuve-Correa combo is pretty amazing, isn’t it? Altuve won the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award (he hit .338 with 24 homers and 30 stolen bases) and Correa produced a 5.9 WAR, 20 homers, 96 RBIs and 36 doubles in his age-21 season. That’s just silly. After a slow start in the bigs (2 for 38), Bregman hit .313 in his final 39 games of 2016 and showed why the Astros were so excited to land him with the second overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft out of LSU. Gurriel was a legend on the Cuba national baseball team, and he’ll get the chance to prove he can be an MLB star, too. If he falters, Houston has options (Marwin Gonzalez and A.J. Reed). But if Gurriel is as good as the Astros hope and Bregman contends for the AL Rookie of the Year, this could be baseball’s best. Even with the uncertainty, they’re top five.
